Another of the emblematic neighborhoods, in terms of culture, tradition and leisure in Seville, is the Arenal neighborhood. Located in the historic centre of the Seville capital, flanked by Paseo de Colón and Adriano and Dos de Mayo streets, El Arenal is one of the busiest areas of the city. There we have the Singular Corral de San José and Singular Arenal buildings.
The weight of its historical past -during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries it connected Spain with the Indies and was one of the most important port areas in the world, after the discovery of America-; the popular monuments that inhabit it -Torre del Oro, Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, Teatro Maestranza and Atarazanas, among others-; and the cultural and gastronomic offer it offers linked to the opera, the bulls and the Sevillian brotherhoods make this neighborhood one of the most visited by tourists who come to Seville.
Singular Apartments, as it could not be otherwise, is also present in this bustling and interesting area of the city with two of its most special buildings: the Singular Corral de San José and the Singular Arenal building. Magnificent, both, if what you are looking for is a central area full of history, monuments and traditions and to have at hand the delicious oasis of our apartments to rest and enjoy a ‘Unique experience’.
Unique Corral de San José: in the heart of the historic center
We start the tour of our buildings in the Arenal neighborhood with the Corral de San José. Located on Calle Jimios, in the heart of the centre, this building oozes history. Whoever stays in it, does so in an old convent and hospital that has now been rehabilitated.
And, in addition, a few meters from the most visited monuments of Seville: Cathedral, Giralda, Archive of the Indies, Reales Alcázares and another of its most popular neighborhoods, Santa Cruz.
The Singular Corral de San José building consists of two individual buildings within the same complex. The largest of them – the corral grande – has nine apartments around a large central courtyard in the style of the old Sevillian corralones, which is the jewel of the whole.
This courtyard, in which there is also a reception area for our guests, is ideal for resting, enjoying an outdoor aperitif or simply relaxing from the hustle and bustle of the streets behind the front door of these apartments. El corral chico, on the other hand, has six apartments connected by elevator and a small patio.
The 15 apartments of the Singular Corral de San José, two of them with a private terrace, are baptized with the names of Flamenco styles, honoring the attachment that exists in this neighborhood for this musical style considered art. Cantiña, Debla, Romance, Nana, Tiento, Taranto or Verdiales are the names of some of the apartments in the corral.
Singular Arenal: the perfect rest after a day of sightseeing
Walking through this neighbourhood we will have the opportunity to learn about part of the history of the capital of Seville, specifically, when Seville became the most important port in the world, a period that began in the fifteenth century when America was discovered. After that, the stage of the Race to the Indies was born and the splendor of Seville as the main port area of the Spanish Empire, which extended during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
There was a time when, as its name indicates, this neighbourhood located on the left bank of the Guadalquivir, was a large open space between the Triana gate and the Torre del Oro. Ships loaded with gold and silver from the Americas arrived at this outskirts of the walls. The galleons were also built and repaired there – in the Real Maestranza de Artillerería, where the Royal Shipyards built by Alfonso X the Wise were located – that departed from Seville.
Today, this neighborhood, which borders three other historic neighborhoods: Museo, Alfalfa and Santa Cruz, is full of life and remains as ‘Babylonian’ as it was in the days of the merchants, sailors and caulkers. With a multitude of terraces and open-air bars next to the Guadalquivir River, this neighbourhood is perfect for enjoying the good weather of Seville during your stays in our tourist accommodation.
