You have to come to Seville at any time of the year and not just once, but whenever you can. There are so many plans that you will find on your trip to our city, that you will want to repeat it over and over again. The capital of Seville will welcome you with open arms in any season, although it is true that the best meteorologically speaking is autumn. That’s when the high temperatures calm down and life in the city takes on a different rhythm. More plans during the day and also in indoor spaces, without forgetting the night and the always appetizing street life in the South of Spain.

Premiere seasons

In autumn a “new course” begins in Seville. Leisure, gastronomic and cultural novelties that premiere after the summer before giving way to Christmas and the winter season.

One of the first leisure plans that have not failed in the autumn calendar of the Seville capital for 26 years now is the Festival of Nations. This 2019 repeats its usual location in the Prado de San Sebastián from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, November 3. An intercultural meeting that brings together gastronomy, leisure and craft options from the five continents in the same venue. A classic in Seville.

Every two years Seville becomes the world capital of Flamenco thanks to the Flamenco Biennial. As its motto says, ‘for almost 40 years, when September arrives in even-numbered years, flamenco lights up Seville’. This year it is not time, the next appointment will be in 2020 from September 4 to October 4. You have time to plan a new visit to our city.

Another of the events that inaugurates autumn is the White Night of Seville. This year’s will be held on Friday, October 4. Organized by the citizen association ‘Sevillasemueve’, this year celebrates its eighth edition with a night full of activities for the night owls of culture. Exhibitions, concerts, theatre, painting, routes through the city and an endless number of large heritage spaces remain open until the early hours of the morning for the occasion, along with other spaces such as the Aquarium, Isla Mágica, Casa de la Ciencia or CaixaForum. Later we will write in detail about this event with which Singular Apartments has a great involvement.

Are you looking forward to a getaway to Seville? If you stay with Singular Apartments, you will also be assured of an unforgettable experience. Also essential in autumn is the appointment with the European Film Festival. This season celebrates its 16th edition from November 8 to 16. The event has been gaining prominence year after year on the international film scene, bringing together in each edition a luxury list of films and creators.

The Fifth Centenary of the First Circumnavigation

If there is a set of activities that stand out above the rest this autumn in Seville, it is the programme of the V Centenary of the First Circumnavigation of the World starring Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan. Although the activities started in mid-August, they will continue this autumn and for the next three years. It is an event that will be held in cities around the world, with the capital of Seville as one of the central protagonists as it is from our city from where, in 1519, the expedition that sought a new Spice Route departed.

With an extensive world programme, Seville will have several dramatised routes through the emblematic points of the city that were related to the feat; with urban signage to commemorate the First Circumnavigation of the World; activities on how to rediscover the world through the botanical species that surround us by the hand of Jardín Cosmopólita; or an Interpretation Centre of the First Circumnavigation in the municipal area of Marqués de Contadero. You can find more information on the websites of some of the organizers such as the Seville City Council or the Nao Victoria Foundation.

The concerts continue

When autumn arrives, it is also time to start the music and concert season. Spaces such as Fibes, Lope de Vega Theatre, Maestranza Theatre, the different halls (Even, Sala X, Malandar, etc), the Rocío Jurado Auditorium, the CAAC, the Box Auditorium, Rocío Jurado or the Cartuja Center present their new cycles at this station. In addition, the weather helps so that outdoor concerts can still be held.

David Bustamante (at the Cartuja Center); El Kanka (at the CAAC); Martirio and Kiko Veneno (at the Lope de Vega) or Vanesa Martín (at the Rocío Jurado Auditorium) inaugurated the first half of September, in the run-up to autumn. Aitana (with a performance at the Seville Auditorium on September 27); Capullo de Jerez (also at the Rocío Jurado on October 4); Pablo López (in the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza on October 5); Pitingo (also on October 5 at the Box Cartuja); Manolo García (in Fibes on October 11 and 12); Mónica Naranjo (on October 12 at the Rocío Jurado Auditorium); María Toledo (at the Cartuja Center on October 18); the Sweet California (at the Cartuja Center on November 19); Ana Belén (at the Maestranza Theatre on 2 November); Raphael (in Fibes from November 21 to 24); Melendi (at the Pavilion of San Pablo on November 23); Viva Suecia (Sala Custom, on November 28); Coque Malla (at the Sala Custom on November 30); Bryan Adams (São Paulo, December 5); or Ana Guerra y Cepeda (with a double recital on December 13 at the Cartuja Center space).

We cannot forget one of the great events of the year in the capital of Seville (it will also be for Spain). Seville will host the MTV Europe Music Awards gala, better known as the EMAs, on November 3. It is the cultural industry event with the greatest impact in Europe, which is broadcast by 500 million viewers. The EMA gala will be held on November 3 at the Seville Exhibition and Congress Center (Fibes), with the details still to be finalized. But that will not be all. There is a whole agenda of events prior to MTV Music Week in Seville. The long weekend will begin on October 31 with a concert at the Cartuja Center, the Vodafone Yu Music Show, and on Saturday, October 1, the music will move to the esplanade of the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC) with a massive concert with groups such as Viva Suecia, Love of Lesbian, the Sevillian group DMBK, Carolina Durante and DJ Marta Fierro. And just the day before the MTV gala, the well-known Plaza de España in Seville will host the concert before the awards. Everything is still to be confirmed for that November 2, but it will be from a high-level group (on previous occasions MTV has taken Muse or U2 to the cities) for an event that will be broadcast and that will be seen by millions of viewers around the world.

If you are planning to visit Seville at this time, book your accommodation with us now. Then it’s going to be impossible!

Appointments with art

In these weeks, the programming of the main halls, museums and exhibition spaces of the city is presented. With the arrival of the first drops in temperature, you begin to feel like indoor plans and going to museums, as recommended by the friends of Urban Explorers, it is always a good option if you visit the capital of Seville.

From Singular Apartments we suggest that you visit spaces such as the CaixaForum Seville, which maintains the exhibition of ‘Tintin and the Moon’, and which will premiere others such as ‘Pharaoh. King of Egypt’, which has just toured from Girona with 140 pieces from the British Museum.

We also recommend, among others, that you take a walk through the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville that from the end of November will exhibit an anthological exhibition of Juan Martínez Montañés, following the baroque wake of the Murillo Year. Or a visit to the CAAC, which will premiere three exhibitions this autumn, including the anthology of the painter and architect from Cádiz Juan Suárez and the first solo exhibition in Spain of the Argentinean active in London Amalia Pica. The space will open the season on September 20 with an exhibition by the British-Palestinian Rosalind Nashashibi.

Gastronomic events

This autumn our city is also filled with great gastronomic events such as Andalucía Sabor, Andalucía 360 or the presentation of the Michelin Guide 2020 Spain and Portugal, which will be announced in Seville on November 20 at the Lope de Vega Theater.

Of all of them, the Michelin Guide event is the one that can have the greatest impact worldwide, as it will bring together great chefs from the Iberian Peninsula. During this gala, next year’s guide will be released and the new stars that will be displayed by the best restaurants in Spain and Portugal will be presented.

Other plans

Autumn in the city is also synonymous with events such as Sicab, the International Dance Festival ‘Dance Month’, the always interesting fairs and exhibitions in the Patio de la Diputación de Sevilla, the recitals of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville (ROSS) at the Maestranza Theatre, visits to the Seville Aquarium or the end of the season to Isla Mágica.

At this time of year many sports activities also begin, such as the races of the circuit of the districts of the city or you can go on excursions to nearby municipalities and participate in autumn pilgrimages. As you can see, thousands of plans that will make you return to Seville again and again and, if it is with Singular Apartments, much better.
