Singular Peral and Gran Poder, a walk through the tradition and modernity of Seville

A few weeks ago we told you about our Singular Alameda tourist apartment building, located in the heart of Seville – like all our accommodations – and in one of the fashionable areas of the city, which has become a benchmark for the artistic and gastronomic avant-garde of the Seville capital in recent years. Not far from there, and also a few steps from the most well-known and visited Sevillian monuments, are two other of our buildings: Singular Peral and Singular Gran Poder. Both so special and so well located that it will be difficult for you to choose, among our proposals, where to stay on your next visit to Seville.

Feria Street, the axis that traces San Luis Street and the Jesús del Gran Poder area, in the San Lorenzo neighborhood, frame the two buildings that we present to you today. Tradition and Sevillian modernity in a very entertaining walk of a few kilometres.

The personality of Feria Street and the San Luis axis

The Singular Peral building is located between the Alameda and Calle Feria, the latter one of the streets with the most personality in Seville and a few steps from Calle San Luis, an architectural axis that goes from the Macarena arch to the Plaza de San Marcos.

Located on Calle Peral -from which the property takes its name-, it consists of 12 apartments, all of them with one bedroom, the attic being a studio/duplex. With a modern and innovative design, they have all the equipment and comforts to make your stay there just as you had dreamed it (free Wi-Fi, central air conditioning, appliances and kitchenware, and plasma TV). Its appetizing fruit names (Kiwi, Mango, Persimmon, Peach, Pineapple, Grape, Mandarin, Strawberry, Banana, Plum, Grapefruit or Raspberry) are in keeping with its fresh decoration.

And its spectacular communal terrace on the top floor, with enviable views of the city, will make you not want to leave them. Even so, we recommend a leisurely walk around its surroundings, without missing the areas that we are now going to discover for you.

A few metres from the Singular Peral building you will find one of the most eclectic streets with its own identity in Seville: Calle Feria. In the Macarena neighborhood, it takes its name from the “feria” or market that has been held there every Thursday morning since the thirteenth century. ‘El Jueves’, the oldest market in the city, was one of the two fairs granted by Ferdinand III of Castile to Seville. Although in its beginning all kinds of items were sold there, now it is a market for antiques and second-hand objects.

Feria was traditionally a street of artisans, carpenters and painters and there are still samples of these trades in some of its oldest shops where wicker baskets and restored wooden furniture are offered. This street has been the birthplace of renowned artists in the city. From Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, who learned his trade there; the bullfighter Juan Belmonte or the musician and singer Jesús de la Rosa Luque, one of the founders of the Andalusian rock group, Triana.

A walk along its short kilometre in length will take you to the church of Omnium Sanctorum, the Chapel of Montesion, the church of San Juan de la Palma, the Palace of the Marqueses de la Algaba or the Market on Calle Feria. The latter is an eighteenth-century food market, one of the oldest service buildings in the city, and which combines the traditional market with the possibility of tasting delicious tapas of Mexican, Japanese, Italian or more traditional cuisine.

On Calle Feria, you can also have a beer or a vermouth in the famous Casa Vizcaíno bar, taste the products of the Old San Lorenzo Abbery, enjoy the Japanese-Andalusian fusion of the Sushi Brotherhood and, if after lunch you have strength left, visit the charming bookstore El Gusanito lector.

The Baroque and Mudejar of San Luis

A little beyond Calle Feria, we find the San Luis axis, which begins in the Plaza de San Marcos and ends at the Arco de la Macarena, the closest point to our Singular Peral building, and where the famous Basilica de la Macarena is located, where one of the images of Mary with the greatest devotion in the city resides. On this street and its surroundings are some of the architectural jewels of the Baroque and Mudejar of the city, such as, for example, the old church of San Luis de los Franceses -which gives its name to the street-; the Gothic-Mudejar parishes of San Gil, Santa Marina and San Marcos; the square and the Palacio del Pumarejo and the Arch or Puerta de la Macarena and its basilica.

A curiosity. Calle San Luis used to be called Calle Real because the kings entered the city through it (through the Arco de la Macarena, the old city gate and one of the three entrances to the old wall that are still preserved). In addition to its architecture, San Luis Street is worth visiting for its gastronomic corners, such as the ConTenedor restaurant or the KÖK Tu Cocina bruch, or for its curious and avant-garde shops.

The charm of Singular Great Power

We can’t forget to introduce you to our Singular Gran Poder building. On Calle Santa Bárbara, in the San Lorenzo neighbourhood, it has five apartments and a duplex penthouse, which enjoys enviable views of the Sevillian capital. Each of the apartments is fully equipped so that your moments of rest are optimal after a day of sightseeing.

The six apartments of this building are baptized with elements related to Seville’s Holy Week (Llamador, Varal, Manto, Cielo, Palio and Bambalina), due to the proximity of one of the most emblematic temples of the Seville capital, the Basilica of the Great Power, located in the Plaza de San Lorenzo, and from which our building takes its name.

The neighbourhood of San Lorenzo and the nearby San Vicente, in the west of the historic centre of Seville, are among the most traditional in the city. They emerged in the sixteenth century and their urban planning is somewhat different from the rest of the center. We fall in love with them for their typical Sevillian houses with large patios – which have inspired the decoration of the Singular Gran Poder building – and in them you can enjoy Holy Week in the capital of Seville in all its splendour due to its strategic location.

Of these areas, the Plaza de San Lorenzo stands out; that of the Museum -with the Museum of Fine Arts-; the Plaza de la Gavidia and the streets San Vicente, Santa Clara, Baños and Torneo streets. On Santa Clara Street, we highlight the convent of Santa Ana (of the Discalced Carmelites, from the seventeenth century), or the Santa Clara Space, an old convent now converted into a cultural space in which the tower of Don Fabrique, from the fourteenth century, is located. The street ends at the entrance of the magnificent Monastery of San Clemente, founded in the 13th century by Ferdinand III the Saint.

In the surroundings of the Singular Gran Poder building you also have multiple leisure and gastronomic options, such as those offered by the Hops and Dreams brewery, the gastrobar La Azotea, the traditional Casa Joaquín or the sweets of Mr Cake.

Singular Peral and Singular Gran Poder, two buildings in different areas of the city, but without leaving the centre of Seville. And with all the comforts for you to have a ‘Unique experience’. Which one do you choose?
